We’ve made the… wedsite… as a place to RSVP and share all the logistical information that comes with weddings. Also, because our wedding will be a marriage of British and Indian humans/cultures/styles/snacks we want to provide some information here to let you know what to expect (ish).

Key times and dates
Friday 16th May
Mehndi and Sangeet
Everyone is welcome any time from 18:00. There will be some chance to do mehndi (henna) on yourself and others, we will share a pot luck dinner from around 19:00. In the evening we will make our own gezelligheid (that means something like cosy whimsical lovely good times in Dutch)! Musical instruments, dance moves, comedy stylings are all welcome, nay, encouraged.
If you arrive before 18:00 you will also be welcomed but we will rope you into some sort of decorating job.
Saturday 17th May
Haldi and Brunch
An optional extra if you want to get up for it: from 10:30 we’ll have have some brunch bits alongside a Haldi ceremony (check out the glossary section down below if Haldi is new to you). Around 12:00 the wedding party will wander off to prepare, and we’ll leave behind some low key entertainments. Crafts perhaps? Maybe a gentle stroll?
Wedding Ceremony onwards
Menu
Friday will be a potluck dinner, Saturday brunch will be a mixture of easy going breads and spreads, the main Saturday meal will be a mixed vegetarian Indian buffet, and there’ll be various snacks here and there.
If you have any dietary needs put it in the RSVP!
Where to stay
The village itself is a bit limited in accommodation options, but we’re less than ten minutes by car/taxi from Birmingham airport, where there are extensive options for places to stay!
There are also options towards Coventry and Balsall Common.
Glossary
Mehndi: A pre-wedding Indian marriage ritual where henna (i.e. Mehndi) is applied to the hands and feet.
Sangeet: Means ‘music’ in Hindi, and in weddings is basically the party the day before the party
Haldi: A pre-wedding Indian marriage ritual where the couple get smeared with tumeric paste (or a less messy alternative in a lot of modern weddings!)
Wedding breakfast: In British weddings it’s what we call the first meal we after the wedding ceremony. Not an actual breakfast
Gezelligheid: A Dutch word which roughly translates to a fun cosy enjoyable time with loved ones. What we will be having!
Ceilidh: A traditional folk dance routed in Scotland and Ireland, also related to English country dancing. IF you’ve never tried it don’t worry, there will be instructions!
Carriages: Another way of telling you all to go home

Whatever makes you comfortable! We’ll be wearing a mixture of Indian and Indo-western clothing. If you would like to incorporate Indian or Western styles of dressing that you aren’t so familiar with we’d love that. We’re happy to give you any advice, just drop us an email/text.
In order of importance:
-
Yourself
-
Your dancing shoes (or dance appreciation slippers)
-
If you’re joining for food on Friday, we’re having a pot luck so asking everyone to bring a dish. We might ask you roughly what kind of dish so we don’t end up with 50 bowls of pasta salad.
-
Again if you’re joining on Friday evening, you might want to bring along something for our evening of self created entertainment. An instrument, dramatic reading, dancing clogs, you get the jist.
-
If you’re joining for the Haldi on Saturday morning, consider bringing a yellow accessory!
-
...because I’m travelling/I can’t cook/I don’t want to/A pasta salad won’t fit in the bag of my touring bicycle
That’s totally fine! We’re asking people if they can’t bring a dish to chip in 5-10 pounds per head to cover extra food costs, just for the Friday night meal. It's not a dry wedding, but it's not alcohol heavy either. There will be a bar open from after the ceremony on Saturday, as well as some toast and table wine (with non alcoholic options).
On Friday there won't be a bar, for those who wish to drink it's BYOB.
Some people have asked if Friday and Saturday are different, and generally we expect some people will go more casual and some people will still dress up, so go with whatever brings you comfort and joy!
